The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son. (Matthew 22:2)
The marriage that God has planned for His Son is the most royal wedding of all. It should thrill the entire world to know that Jesus is coming back to retrieve His bride. But the sad truth is that the world was far more interested in last Friday’s earthly wedding than they are about the upcoming marriage of the Lamb.
And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. (Revelation 19:9)
The Bridegroom has been away for a very long time, and many have fallen asleep or fallen away, but He told us about that:
- Mark 13:34: For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
- Matthew 25:19: After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
- Luke 18: 8: Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
It can be disheartening when you bring up the subject of our Lord’s return, and professed believers are quick to quote Matthew 24:36, which states: "No one knows about that day or hour.”
While that is true, Jesus never said that we should not be looking for Him. Quite the contrary, he repeatedly tells us that we should remain alert.
- Matthew 24:42: Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
- Luke 12:35-40: 35Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; 36And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately. 37Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. 38And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. 9 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. 40Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
- Matthew 24:43-44: 43But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
- Mark 13:35-37: 35Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: 36Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 37And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
In the parable of the talents we learn that when Jesus does return, He will reckon with us. (Matthew 25:19). Matthew 16:27 also tells us: For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. These passages have great significance concerning the millennial kingdom. More on that to come.
